In celebration of International Medical Physics Week (IMPW) 2026, the Bangladesh Medical Physics Society (BMPS) successfully organized a four-day international webinar series from 20–23 April 2026. The event brought together distinguished medical physics experts from China, India, Australia, and Bangladesh, highlighting recent developments in radiotherapy, professional development, quality assurance, and patient safety.
The webinar series was conducted virtually via Zoom and attracted participants from Bangladesh and abroad, including medical physicists, radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, academics, researchers, and students. The initiative reflected BMPS’s continued commitment to promoting professional education and international collaboration in medical physics.
The scientific program featured four inspiring lectures:
- 20 April 2026: Prof. Xiance Jin (First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, China) delivered an insightful presentation on “Self-growth of Clinical Medical Physicist and Certification,” emphasizing professional development, competency building, and the importance of certification in advancing clinical practice.
- 21 April 2026: Dr. K. M. Rafic (Apollo Speciality Hospitals, India) presented “Online Adaptive Radiotherapy: Are We There Yet?”, discussing current technologies, clinical implementation, challenges, and the future prospects of online adaptive radiotherapy.
- 22 April 2026: Dr. Robin Hill (University of Sydney, Australia) spoke on “Self-managed Dosimetry Audits in Radiotherapy Departments,” highlighting practical approaches for strengthening quality assurance programs and improving treatment safety through independent dosimetry audits.
- 23 April 2026: Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman (Evercare Hospital Chattogram, Bangladesh) concluded the series with an engaging lecture titled “Enhancing Patient Safety in Radiotherapy through Independent Dose Verification.” The presentation emphasized the growing role of independent dose verification systems in modern radiotherapy, showcasing how advanced verification technologies can improve treatment accuracy, strengthen quality assurance, and enhance patient safety.
Throughout the webinar series, participants actively engaged in discussions and interactive question-and-answer sessions, creating an excellent platform for knowledge exchange and professional networking. The lectures highlighted the rapid evolution of medical physics and reinforced the critical role of medical physicists in ensuring safe, accurate, and high-quality cancer care.
