It is my great pleasure and honor to serve as the Chair of the Science Committee of the Asia–Oceania Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (AFOMP). I would like to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude to all the members of the Committee for accepting this important role and for their continued commitment to the advancement of medical physics in the Asia–Oceania region.
I am also privileged to work with distinguished committee members representing AFOMP member organizations across the region: Dr. P. Venkatraman from AMPI, Dr. Jeannie Wong Hsiu Ding from IFM, Dr. Mohammad Amin Mosleh-Shirazi from IAMP, Dr. Daisuke Kawahara from JSMP, Dr. Wonmo Sung from KSMP, Dr. Francis Lee from HKMPA, Dr. Sivananthan Sarasanandarajah from ACPSEM, and Dr. Xinye Ni from CSMP. The diversity of expertise, professional backgrounds, and regional perspectives represented by these members will be a major strength.
The AFOMP Science Committee aims to promote the academic advancement and scientific development of medical physics in the Asia–Oceania region. In line with this mission, the Committee serves as a scientific advisory and coordinating body supporting the AFOMP, its Executive Committee, and its member organizations. Its key roles include providing scientific advice, promoting research collaboration, supporting scientific meetings such as the Asia–Oceania Congress of Medical Physics (AOCMP), contributing to academic and scientific resources, and participating in the evaluation of scientific proposals, awards, and other related activities.
As part of our recent activities, the Science Committee has contributed to the scientific review process for the AOCMP 2026, including abstract evaluation and support for the development of the scientific program. The Committee has also been involved in the review process for the AFOMP Journal Prize for Best Paper. These activities are directly aligned with our responsibility to support scientific quality, academic rigor, and fair evaluation of AFOMP-related scientific activities.
Looking ahead, the Science Committee will continue to support AFOMP’s scientific activities through close collaboration with other AFOMP committees, local organizing committees, member organizations, and relevant international bodies. We will also seek to encourage cross-border research collaboration, strengthen scientific exchange, and support the development of early career medical physicists across the Asia–Oceania region in the future.
I am confident that, through the collective expertise and dedication of all committee members, the AFOMP Science Committee can make a meaningful contribution to the further scientific advancement of medical physics. We will continue to work together to support AFOMP’s scientific growth of AFOMP and contribute to the broader medical physics community.
