AFOMP ECMP Activity: How We Do It Here: A Clinical Training Practice Spotlight

Clinical Medical Physics Training at the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University

1. Introduction

I am currently undertaking a clinical medical physics training programme at the hospital. This report records my progress from 7 July to 18 August 2026. It is prepared for my clinical training supervisor, Prof. Jin Xiance, and the clinical training arrangement committee to review practical exposure, competencies developed, equipment encountered and areas where additional supervised hands-on training would be valuable.

3. Reflection

I sincerely thank Prof. Jin Xiance and all medical physicists, radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, CT staff, nurses and teachers who have supported my training. The teachers have been very helpful and have taught me within actual clinical workflows. They have answered my questions and explained machine operation, patient setup, treatment delivery and QA in detail. Despite language differences, they have made a strong effort to teach me clearly. I am very satisfied with the teaching environment and the support provided by all sections. Importantly, the rotations involved direct supervised patient setup and machine operation rather than observation-only training.

4. Summary

The training from 7 July to 18 August 2026 has progressed from intensive CT simulation to multi-platform LINAC practice, QA, brachytherapy exposure, and treatment planning. CT simulation has provided a strong hands-on foundation, while LINAC treatment and QA competencies continue to develop. The TPS rotation is now linking these clinical experiences to treatment planning and optimisation. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity and look forward to continued supervised hands-on clinical practice and, if possible, to participating in a small research activity with the team.
