Warm Greetings!

On behalf of the editorial board, I am delighted to present you, the years 2026 second edition of AFOMP PULSE, an official newsletter of Asia Oceania Federation of organization for medical physics, Volume 18:issue 2.This issue reflects the breadth, diversity and dynamism of medical physics across our region, spanning education, clinical practice, research, innovation, professional development and international collaboration.

Medical physics is advancing rapidly. Precision radiotherapy, proton therapy, SBRT, motion management, artificial intelligence, Monte Carlo methods, advanced dosimetry and FLASH radiotherapy are increasingly moving from research into clinical practice. Yet, alongside innovation, our fundamental responsibility remains unchanged: to ensure that technology is implemented safely, effectively, appropriately and equitably for the benefit of patients.

Education is the foundation of our profession. The feature article, “Six Decades of Medical Physics Education in India: Evolution, Challenges and Future Directions,” provides valuable insight into the evolution of medical physics education and its future needs. As our discipline becomes increasingly multidisciplinary, education must integrate physics, biology, computing, engineering and clinical medicine while fostering problem-solving, leadership, innovation and lifelong learning.

The “Meet the Expert” feature on Dr. W. Howell Round reminds us that the progress of medical physics is driven not only by technology and research, but also by individuals who share knowledge, mentor colleagues and build institutions.

The Editor’s Choice section highlights advances in proton therapy, dosimetry, Monte Carlo simulation, pancreatic SBRT, intrafraction motion tracking, radiochromic film reuse and machine performance evaluation. These developments reinforce an important principle: precision requires accurate measurement, verification and quality assurance. The medical physicist therefore remains central to commissioning, optimization, independent evaluation and patient-specific verification.

The “Did You Know?” feature on Artificial intelligence -enabled early detection of cancer and non-communicable diseases highlights both its promise and its challenges. Successful clinical adoption requires attention to data quality, validation, generalizability, workflow integration, cybersecurity, ethics and accountability. Medical physicists are well positioned to contribute through their expertise in quantitative science, technology assessment, quality assurance and risk management.

The “What’s New?” and “Technology & Innovation” sections showcase emerging developments in patient-specific QA, electron FLASH radiotherapy and innovative linear accelerator platforms. These advances emphasize the need to balance innovation with robust evidence, reproducibility, regulatory compliance, appropriate training and measurable patient benefit.

The professional news and National Member Organization reports further demonstrate the remarkable activity across Asia and Oceania—from radiological protection and proton therapy to precision radiotherapy, BNCT, in-vivo dosimetry and intraoperative radiotherapy. These initiatives highlight the importance of regional knowledge-sharing, networking and collaboration, particularly where expertise and resources remain unevenly distributed.

The upcoming meetings, including AOCMP 2026 in Busan, International Day of Medical Physics activities, SCMPCR 2026 and EPSM 2026 in Brisbane, offer valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, develop collaborations, mentor young professionals and shape the future of our discipline.

As Chief Editor, I believe AFOMP Pulse belongs to the entire medical physics community. I warmly encourage colleagues to contribute articles, professional news, NMO reports, educational materials, innovations, perspectives, photographs and professional milestones. Every contribution can help strengthen connections and inspire our community.

I sincerely thank the AFOMP Executive Committee, led by Prof. Hasin Anupama Azhari, President, and Dr. Aik Hao Ng, Secretary-General, as well as the Committee Chairs, Editorial Board members, contributors, reviewers, National Member Organizations, and industry partnersfor their continued support and valuable contributions in making this publication possible.
