AFOMP Presidential Message
Greetings!!! I am honored with the opportunity to serve as the 7th President of the Asia Oceania Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics for 2018-21.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the organizing team of 18th AOCMP and 14th SEACOMP for a very successful conference at Kuala Lumpur during 11-14 November 2018. I also congratulate and thank all the delegates from over 40 countries, who made this event a grant success.
The new executive committee took charge during the AOCMP2018 at Kuala Lumpur. Prof Eva Bezak from Australia is our new Vice President and Prof Hasin Anupama Azhari of Bangladesh, the new Secretary General substantiating the increasing role of women medical physicists in. Prof Kwan Ng will continue to be the treasurer for second term. We have many reasons to be optimistic about a sustainable future for medical physics focusing not only on our goals but also, on our potentials. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the previous AFOMP Presidents, Secretary Generals and Ex-Com for their proactive initiations to advance the status and standard of practice of the medical physics profession. AFOMP would not be where it is today if not for the great efforts and numerous hours contributed by all the leaders that came before me, especially our immediate Past President Prof Tae Suk Suh, as well as the best Secretary General, Dr Howell Round. The constitution of AFOMP was reviewed and the changes were approved in the AFOMP council meeting and are available on AFOMP website. The AFOMP is striving to build a strong relationship between national organizations in the Asia-Oceania region and international bodies. We currently have 21 member national organizations and MEFOMP as members of the federation. We are looking forward to national medical physicists organizations from MEFOMP to become member of AFOMP so that they also get all the benefits as AFOMP NMO’s.
To recognize and appreciate the outstanding contributions of medical physicists from AFOMP region, an oration award in the name of Prof. Kiyonari Inamura is instituted. Prof Kiyonari Inamura was one of the founding members and contributed significantly to the sustained development of AFOMP. He had served AFOMP at different capacities over the years. He was Professor Emeritus at Osaka University and longstanding member of the CARS Congress, Organizing Committee and Deputy Editor of IJCARS. His efforts in advancing interdisciplinary and international cooperation is without parallel and his way of leading by example, have been of great benefit not only to the Medical Physicist community of AFOMP but also for the rest of the world. The first Prof. Kiyonari Inamura Memorial AFOMP Oration was delivered by Prof Tomas Kron of Australia during the 18th AOCMP at Kuala Lumpur.
The 19th AOCMP will be hosted by the MEFOMP and the Kuwait Association of Medical Physics (KAMP) during 10th to 12th November 2019 in Kuwait. I hope all of you will join for this conference and make it a success with your active participation.
The 20th AOCMP will be hosted by Thailand at Phuket during 2020.
I truly appreciate your support in the coming years and the opportunity to serve as President of AFOMP, a great association for Medical Physics.
Finally I thank you all for the tremendous work you are doing and wishing you all a very fruitful year ahead.
Prof. Arun Chougule

Asia- Oceania Federation of Organization for Medical Physics (AFOMP) constantly works with a great mission for the development of medical physics in the Asia-Oceania region. AFOMP policies cover the aspects for the cooperation and promotion among the medical physics organizations in the region by distinctly defining their roles, responsibilities, professional status, services, ethics etc.
