AFOMP Lifetime Achievement Award


Objective: The AFOMP Lifetime Achievement Award honours a medical physicist who has established a distinguished career in their fields, serving the profession and the community.

Presentation: The AFOMP Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented annually at the Asia-Oceania Conference on Medical Physics (AOCMP) to the medical physicist judged by AFOMP’s Awards and Honours Committee (AHC) to have demonstrated a significant contribution to medical physics and communities in the AFOMP region.

Nomination procedure: The award will be advertised annually by AFOMP, using a mailing list and website.

  1. Nominations should be made by the NMO’s President or Secretary General.
  2. The nominee must have worked (or still working) as a medical physicist in the AFOMP region for at least 20 years.
  3. The nominee must be of more than 50 years of age on 1st January of the awarding year.
  4. Nominations are to be made to the chair of the Awards and Honours Committee (AHC) and Secretary General of AFOMP and should include the following:
    a) A nomination form evaluating nominee’s achievements and identifying the specific work to be recognized (the form will be made available with the call for nominations).
    b) Curriculum Vitae of the nominee including publications.
  5. Self-nomination will not be considered.
  6. Current members of the AFOMP AHC committee and the ExCom are ineligible to be nominated.

Criteria for selection:

  1. The primary criteria for nominating Awardees are:
  2. The nominees should have exerted a significant impact on the science and scientific practice of Medical Physics.
  3. The nominees have demonstrated significant service to the broader AFOMP community (healthcare, policy, patients and their families).
  4. The nominees have significantly influenced the development of the profession of Medical Physics in his/her country and/or AFOMP region.
  5. The nominees’ activities in any national and/or international organizations for Medical Physics have been meritorious.

Selection: All eligible nominations will be evaluated by the Awards and Honours Committee and a recommendation will be put forward to the AFOMP Executive for consideration.

The Awardee will be notified with sufficient time in advance to make arrangements to attend the AOCMP for presentation.

The award will consist of a certificate and a memento. The Awardee will be asked to deliver an acceptance speech or lecture at the AOCMP. If applicable, the AOCMP will offer free registration and 3 nights’ accommodation to the Awardee.
