11thAnnual Conference of Bangladesh Medical Physics Society (ACBMPS-2023)

The Bangladesh Medical Physics Society (BMPS) organized its 11thAnnual Conference on Medical Physics, which took place on January 26, 2024, at the Krishibid Institution, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The conference gathered leading experts, researchers, and practitioners in the field of medical physics to discuss the latest advancements, share innovative research, and foster collaboration. The program included Oral & Poster Sessions, Vendor Presentations, and Valedictory/Award Ceremony followed by the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of BMPS. Over 150 students and delegates were participated in the conference, showing great enthusiasm for enhancing their knowledge of Medical Physics.
SCIENTIFIC SESSION: 1 (INVITED SPEECH)
Dr. Biplab Sarkar (India) discussed the significant impact of artificial intelligence on radiotherapy practices in his presentation. His topic was “Advances of AI in Radiotherapy.”
Abdus Sattar Khalid (UK) presented “Quantification of Intra-fraction Organ Motion in MRI-Guided Brachytherapy for Cervical Cancer“, highlighting innovative approaches to enhancing treatment precision.
Dr Md Rayhan Uddin shared about “Management of quality assurance program and quality audit of radiotherapy center in Bangladesh: A review of regulatory Inspection”- a valuable insights of quality audit in radiotherapy in terms of regulatory aspects.
SCIENTIFIC SESSION: 2 (INVITED SPEECH)
The following invited lectures was presented in the 2nd Scientific Session:
Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman: Dosimetric Impact of Grid Size and Statistical Uncertainty on Monte Carlo Algorithm in VMAT Planning.
Prof. Md. Abdullah Al Mashud: Unlocking the Therapeutic Potential of Mangifera Indica Leaf Extract Compounds.
AFOMP SESSION: MEDICAL PHYSICS EDUCATION, TRAINING AND PROFESSION
In this session there were three presenters and they discussed about Medical Physics education training and profession for Bangladesh and Global perspectives.
Prof. Dr. Golam Abu Zakaria: Training and Career Opportunities for Medical Physics Graduates: Global Perspectives.
Prof. Dr. Hasin Anupama Azhari: Importance of a Unified Medical Physics Syllabus in AFOMP.
Shahadat Hossen Shuvo: Aspects pf medical physics in Bangladesh: a growing Field with a Bright Future.
POSTER SESSION:
A total of 25 paper from difference medical physics disciplines were resented in the poster presentation session. A panel of judges selected three posters were selected for the award.
VENDOR PRESENTATION SESSION:
Two vendors- Varian Medical System and Elekta Ltd were presented their latest products insights in the conference. MrKPKartik from Varian and Mr Md Sajon Hossain from Trade House (Local distributor of Elekta were delivered their product-oriented talks.
UNVEILING THE BOOK:
A book entitled “Bridge Builder Dr Golam Abu Zakaria- Medical Physics International” was unveiled during inaugural programme of the conference. The book is a tribute to the untiring commitment of Professor Golam Abu Zakaria in Germany, Bangladesh, South Asia and beyond. The book contains 46 interesting articles in 6 sections written by many prominent authors from different countries, which reflects the spinal contribution and dedication to the medical physics profession and development.
The book was been edited by Prof. Arun Chougule (India) and Prof. Hasin Anupama Azhari (Bangladesh). Foreword was written by Prof. Tomas Kron (Australia). The book is an example for the next generation promoting medical physics discipline nationally and internationally.
AGM of BMPS
After the conference AGM of BMPS was held and previous activities were reported. In the AGM an election was held to form new Executive Committee of BMPS for the year of 2023-2025. Prof. Dr. Golam Abu Zakaria was serving as the election commissioner. The newly elected president, Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, delivered a speech to the new EC committee.
VALEDICTORY/CLOSING CEREMONY
The BMPS president, former president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer shared their experiences about organizing the annual program to inspire the younger generation. Both local and international participants provided feedback on the conference’s outcomes. Awards also given to the three best poster presenters
