The Korean Medical Physics Certification Board (KMPCB) is an independent, nonprofit organization. We were founded to provide board certification to all diplomates who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge in medical physics, and to accredit medical physics educational programs which have met the rigorous standards of education and training. In November 2015, the KMPCB was accredited by the International Medical Physics Certification Board (IMPCB) endorsed by the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP). The accreditation of our certification boards means to enhance the status of medical physicists and, especially, certified medical physicists worldwide. The Board began to examine and certify candidates for recognition as medical physicists. The KMPCB offers certification for medical physicists and accreditation of education programs in the specialties of Nuclear Medical Physics, and Therapeutic Medical Physics.
Current Status of KMPCB
Since the inauguration of the third executive committee in January 2022, KMPCB has achieved significant milestones through dedicated efforts. Notably, we successfully converted a regular certification (KMPCB) for a total of 46 KMPCB Equivalents (KMPCBE). Additionally, our ongoing certification exams have continuously produced new KMPCB diplomates. As of now, there are a total of 86 KMPCB diplomates.
In collaboration with the Korean Society of Medical Physics (KSMP) and the Korean Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Program (K-CAMPEP), we have accredited one educational institution as a K-CAMPEP accredited graduate program.
Future Directions of KMPCB
KMPCB will continue to strive for the standardization and internationalization of medical physics certification in Korea. We aim to carefully consider the future direction of KMPCB and strengthen our foundation. To promote the activation of KMPCB and the legalization of domestic medical physics certification, we plan to seek practical measures through ongoing collaboration with relevant societies such as KSMP, the Korean Society for Radiation Oncology (KOSRO), and the Korean Society of Nuclear Medicine (KSNM). Additionally, through regular board meetings, we will work to further activate KMPCB and undertake various tasks to enhance its international stature.
KMPCB remains committed to advancing the field of medical physics and establishing international standards for certification.
