Dear colleagues,
As we publish the September 2026 edition of the AFOMP Pulse Newsletter, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all our National Member Organisations (NMOs), executive committee members, and dedicated volunteers for your continued collaboration and invaluable support. Working closely together under the AFOMP platform, we continue to strengthen the medical physics profession and expand our impact across the Asia-Oceania region.
A key milestone in our commitment to nurturing the next generation of professionals is the launching of the Subcommittee of Early Career Medical Physicists (ECMP) under the AFOMP Professional Relations Committee. This initiative has been established to provide an inclusive regional platform designed specifically to support, connect, and empower our young medical physicists. I strongly encourage all eligible candidates to put forward nominations to this subcommittee, and to participate actively, work together, share your vision, and make full use of the professional support and mentoring opportunities within our region and beyond.
I am also delighted to warmly invite each of you to join us at AOCMP 2026 (the 26th Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics), taking place in Busan, South Korea, from 9 to 11 September 2026. Hosted by the Korean Society of Medical Physics (KSMP) at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center (BPEX), this year’s congress is centered around the theme, “Beyond Precision through Intelligent Innovation for Advanced Patient Care”. It is a premier opportunity for us to share cutting-edge scientific research, network, and foster a forward-looking, vibrant professional community.
Looking slightly further ahead, we are also preparing to celebrate the International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP) 2026 on November 7. This year’s theme, “Advancing Global Health Equity: The Ethical Foundation of Medical Physics,” highlights our ethical responsibility to make high-quality medical physics services and safe medical technologies universally accessible to all patients, regardless of geographic or socioeconomic barriers. I encourage all NMOs to actively participate in the scheduled IOMP webinars, and organise local promotional activities to emphasise the compassionate, human-centered role of medical physicists in healthcare.
